AFTA collaboration student initiative
Dublin, Ireland, 30 August 2019

Six West, a world-leading provider of flight operations services to aircraft lessors, airlines and private aviation in collaboration with the Cork-based Atlantic Flight Training Academy (AFTA) are delighted to launch their Student Initiative Competition on the 30 September 2019.

The competition, which is open to all students in Ireland from transition to sixth year, is designed to create awareness of Ireland’s thriving aviation industry and to encourage students to consider a career in the field.

Speaking from Six West’s Dublin headquarters, co-founder Jason Williamson states, “As an aviation business with both Irish and international branches, it is vital that we make students aware of the variety of training opportunities available locally, that can lead to fulfilling careers in aviation. Retaining young talent on our shores is essential for Ireland to maintain its position as a global leader in the industry. Whilst other countries are intent on closing the gap that Ireland has built for itself over the past decades, we must focus on nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals”.

Mark J. Casey, CEO Head of Training at AFTA comments, “We are thrilled to support this fantastic initiative and are confident the competition will be a success. We are looking forward to supporting young aviation enthusiasts by offering assistance and guidance towards a future career in an aviation-related discipline. Ireland continues to punch above its weight in all sectors of the aviation industry. As a result, Ireland is in a unique position to offer a broad spectrum of career opportunities to secondary school graduates. This competition is an ideal opportunity to take the first steps towards a career in the aviation sector”.

The competition judges are looking forward to receiving submissions from students who show a genuine interest in aviation and who are capable of presenting innovative ideas that challenge today’s industry standards and which trigger debate amongst Ireland’s industry leaders.
